NRG Acquires Pentalum to Direct-detection LiDar Technology and Authorizes Primanex to Sell and Serve

NRG headquarter, Heinsburg, October 10, 2018

Hinesburg, Vermont, the USA - NRG, a subsidiary of ESCO Corporation (NYSE: ESE), announced that it has acquired a range of advanced technologies from the Israeli company Pentalum today. Founded in 2009, Pentalum pioneered the development of low-cost lidar technology for global wind resource exploration and forecasting, wind farm operations and scientific research.

Pentalums main innovation is their patented direct-detection laser radar technology, which achieves extremely high measurement accuracy and reliability at a significantly reduced cost compared to traditional Doppler lidar. Since 2012, Pentalum has applied this technology to its Spider® -- vertical wind profiler, which has been used on five continents to date. Mr. Justin Wheating, President of NRG, believes: “NRG has played an active role in the global wind power market for more than 30 years. We recognize that laser radar is increasingly showing its value in wind resource measurement and wind farm operations. The combination of Pentalums advanced technology and NRGs global sales and service capabilities is an important advantage for our customers, and for those customers who have been plagued by the high cost of Doppler lidar, it is a huge new opportunity.

NRG has licensed Primanex as the exclusive sales and service provider for Spidar in China. Primanex, based in Shandong, is a designer and manufacturer of high-end optoelectronics. It has worked closely with Pentalum to promote the direct-detection lidar technology to the China market. Gregory Erdmann, vice president of global sales at NRG, said: "We are excited to be a partner with Primanex. Over the years, Primanex has been promoting and serving in the technology, and using their professional expertise in Spidar to provide the best user experience for Chinese users.” Primanex is not only the customer service, warranty and repair center of Spidar in China, but also provides customers with field power system, field operation monitoring service, maintenance and equipment rental service.

Zhao Qiang, president and CEO of Primanex, believes: “Spidar is a reliable tool for wind measurement, which has the price that customers like and the measurement accuracy. With the support of NRG, a pioneer in the field of Chinese wind resources, we are looking forward to create a brighter future for this technology and bring huge potential value to China wind power market."

NRG plans to begin selling new Spidar machines in early 2019. Primanex is providing complete services to Spider customers in China. For more information, please contact NRG China Project Manager Xu Jian (jx@nrgsystems.com) or Primanex President Zhao Qiang (andrew.zhao@primanex.com.cn).
